    Sponsor

Hello Linda, When you see the message that a sponsor's email is already in use, that means that the teacher in question either created an account on their own, or is already on someone else's account. You can either add them to your account using a different email, or you can ask them to contact Bookshare Customer Support to request they be removed from the account they are currently on. Once removed you will be able to add them to your account with the email that is currently in use. Our phones are open from 9am to 5pm PST, Monday through Friday: 650-352-0198 option 1 for membership Our email address: membership@bookshare.org

Hello Susan, All titles in our collection are available in both text and audio formats. We do not have human read audio for our collection, but our texts can be read by a number of different artificial voices depending on how you choose to access them. Audio Off-line

For students who already have access to Bookshare, but they do NOT have internet, how can we help them access audio offline? Is there a way to download the book and play the audio offline? Our students are getting Chromebooks with materials downloaded to them which they may access offline, but we can't figure out the audio.

    Sponsor

I manage my district's account. I tried to add a sponsor (teacher) and it says her email is already used. How can I find out what list she is on or what is going on? She swears she never signed up before. I am thinking she started signing up and stopped. Help?

    Teacher using bookshare

I agree with my fellow teachers who have posted. I'm a teacher at a school for blind - ALL students have an IEP and also have a Visual Impairment. Why can't I look at the books - especially textbooks? This would be very helpful from a teacher point of view. IF there is a way to do this, please tell me how. Thanks!

  21. My daughter is unable to operate a keyboard, mouse or touch-screen to advance to the next page while listening to books. She listens to Bookshare on a Chromebook and TobiiDynavox. Setting it to scrolling does not cause it to advance to the next page when the text being read goes to the next page. How do I set it to advance to the next page automatically? Thanks

    Supporting Students During School Closures

We are eager to do all that we can to support educators, students, and families at this crucial time. Under current U.S. Copyright Law, Bookshare membership is only available to people who are certified by competent authorities as having qualifying reading barriers, such as blindness or low vision, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities that make it difficult or impossible to read standard print. We encourage you to sign up all students who meet these criteria. In these extraordinary times, we are in conversations with legal and educational authorities to explore any possible options for increasing access to the Bookshare library. We have created a resource page that includes e-learning resources available from publishers and other vendors that can benefit a broader population. We will update this information as we learn more. The Bookshare library does include nearly 10,000 "Freely Available” books that can be downloaded by anyone, without restriction. Parent Waiver to Share Student Information

Actually Sondra, it’s likely that parents have already given their permission for “ancillary services” somewhere in the mountain of paperwork they signed when the student’s IEP or 501 plan was created. i am the parent of several special needs kiddos, and across several districts in different states, there was always a line somewhere in the “permission to provide SpEd services” that related to the previously mentioned “ancillary services.” Ancillary Services is just a fancy way of saying “services that are not specifically outlined in the IEP/501 but that are necessary to provide the main services.” I hope this helps.

    Managing Bookshare

Hello! Sponsors can download books that they have assigned to their members, but they do not have access to the Bookshare Web Reader. In order to download a book that you have assigned to a member in a reading list, please follow the steps below: 1. Log into your sponsor account. 2. Navigate to your "my reading lists" page on your account. 3. Click on the title of the reading list that contains the book you wish to download. 4. Click on the "Download" button located in the "Action" column for the book you wish to download. 5. On the next page, check the box next to the name(s) of the member(s) for whom you wish to download the book and choose the file format you would like it to be downloaded in from the drop down menu in the last column. 6. Click the blue "Prepare Books" button and then click "Confirm" in the pop up window. 7. On the following page, wait for the loading symbol in the "status" column for the book to change to the word "Available." When this word appears, click on it to download the book to your computer.
