    Audio books and IEP

I have a student that has an IEP and qualifies for a Bookshare account but does not have audio books listed on his IEP. Am I able to create a Bookshare account or do I have to have his IEP amended?

    highlighting with Read 2 Go

My student has the Read 2 Go app. We were trying to figure out if she can highlight text individually, but we weren't able to figure it out. Does the app have this feature? Where students can highlight individual text? We tried dragging with our fingers but it didn't work. Thank you!!

    increase reading spead

I would like to know more about Read2Go? What is it? I use a digital book player currently for my student to listen as she reads in her braille book. We are working to increase her reading fluency, so we need to find something that is more user friendly. I'd like to find out more about anything that could help with fluency.
  10. My student enjoys reading magazines, but I can't find these on Bookshare. Are they available?
  11. Hi Jerri, I don't remember seeing the email you referred to about the Time for Kids magazines.

Do you remove students who move?

Hi Susan, I would agree with what Michelle stated. I generally recommend removing them whenever they are no longer part of your organization. This tends to help keep the members roster up to date. Members left on organizational accounts can be added to others as well though this causes an issue where the member may not log into the correct account. The only time I really recommend keeping them on the account is if they still want access to certain books while they are being set up on another account.

    Reading time?

Hi Melanie and Michelle, Currently, this is not a feature Bookshare offers. The good news is that our team is working on this for a future update. Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA as to when this will be completed. From what I have seen with the upcoming update sponsors will be able to see more detailed statistics on how the members are reading.

How to change setting in Bookshare Web Reader

Hi Natasha, You are first going to want to make sure you are only using the Web Reader on a laptop or computer. We also generally recommend using Google Chrome or Safari if using a Mac. We do find that clearing cookies & cache of the browser will tend to fix this issue. If you are still having an issue after clearing the cache first verify if this is only happening on one title or all of them.

    Author Royalties

Hi folks, I am not a member so I really appreciate the opportunity to share an idea with the community. My understanding is that publishers donate about 90% of the books added to Bookshare's collection. Many of these are copyrighted by the author, who normally receives a royalty payment for each book sold. Since the books are donated, I assume they receive nothing when a Bookshare member downloads their book. My idea is for Bookshare to give members a method to pay authors royalties for books they download. This would be completely voluntary, and all of the funds would go to the authors. I think it would be a nice way for Bookshare members to be able to "give back" to their favorite authors. What do you think?
  18. Hello, I am unable to change settings in Bookshare Web Reader. The only thing that is changed is Text and Background Colors (I was able to change it to BeeLine. The rest (including the Font Size, Display Format and default eSpeak Arabic TTS is going back every time I exit the settings. Please help. Thank you.

    Reading time?

I know that you can look at Organization downloads and the number of downloads per student but I don't know of a way to determine time spent reading the book. That would be a wonderful resource! I will be watching this topic for ideas!

Do you remove students who move?

Hi Susan, I am the Primary Contact for our district's Organizational account and I do remove a student if someone tells me that a student is no longer in our district. I am always concerned that if they remain on our district Organizational account, they might not be able to be added to an Organizational Account in their new district. I don't know if that is true, though. We are a large district and I like to keep the list current. I hope this helps! Do you remove students who move?

One fourth of the kids on our school list have moved. It suggests only removing them if they graduate. Do you suggest removing these students or leaving them on until they would graduate?

    Reading time?

Is there a way as a teacher to track how much time a student has used Bookshare? I understand that sometimes they export to other sources to actually read books, but am trying to find data on how much kids are actually using Bookshare. Any guidance you might have would be helpful!

    increase reading spead

is there a way that read2go could allow for the audiobook to be read faster? I seem to remember the text being read faster years ago but it just seems kind of slow now. also I am aware of the slider I am specifically talking about the maximum limit of the slider to be increased. the maximum is currently 260% I would be ecstatic if it could go up to 500%. this is a minor thing but after listening to almost over 1000 books on the app it would be nice. thanks.

    Holding place in Web Reader

Hi Anne, Please note that our Web Reader will only save your place in a book if you always open that book on the same device each time. Furthermore, the Web Reader only reads from the top of the screen down. To start reading at a certain spot, scroll the text you wish to read to the top of the screen before pressing the play button. If you are still experiencing issues, please unblock third party cookies in your web browser. The Web Reader requires third-party cookies to be enabled in order to access Bookshare content. I hope this information is helpful.

    Holding place in Web Reader

How can a student hold the place where they stop in WebReader? I have looked at it, and if you click stop and then start again, it starts over at the beginning of the page on the screen.
