I cannot figure out the steps to download books in an audio format. I did seem to have success on one attempt, but it was taking forever even though the status said downloading. What are the correct steps?. Anyone know this?.

Hi David,

Audio can take a significant amount of time to download from Bookshare as for the majority of the books, when you select the download option in that format our servers only then go and make the audio files for the book.  However that said audio is also our least used format by far, instead the vast majority of our books are downloaded in text into an application that generates the audio for us, what kind of device or system are you using to access our books?

I too am having Audio download issues.  I have been trying to down load the same text for 2 weeks now and it just keeps saying in progress.  I have tried to download it with 2 different students, but keep getting the same result.

Hi Elizabeth,

We do occasionally have books that cannot be converted to audio for various reasons.  Which book is this?  And after one week our download attempts do cancel, it might be worth re-requesting the book again if the original request was longer than 7 days ago to retry the download.

I have two mp3 audio books that have been downloading "in progress" for nearly five days.  These are required reading for school; a long unexpected delay is problematic.  Download, or don't, but don't keep me in limbo assuming I'll get what I need/requested.

Hi Michael,

Audio downloads that take longer than 12 hours is extraordinarily rare, unfortunately I fear either these books are too complex for our audio processing servers to convert, or that these requests may have somehow gotten bugged in our system.  Unfortunately there's not a very good way to restart these requests currently in our system, if you re-request them in the audio format now it might kick-start the process, otherwise we may need to wait an additional two days for them to officially fail before the new request could be tried.

It may be worth contacting our customer support at (650) 352.0198 to ask them if they could offer an alternative option.
