Author Royalties

Hi folks, I am not a member so I really appreciate the opportunity to share an idea with the community.

My understanding is that publishers donate about 90% of the books added to Bookshare's collection. Many of these are copyrighted by the author, who normally receives a royalty payment for each book sold. Since the books are donated, I assume they receive nothing when a Bookshare member downloads their book.

My idea is for Bookshare to give members a method to pay authors royalties for books they download. This would be completely voluntary, and all of the funds would go to the authors.

I think it would be a nice way for Bookshare members to be able to "give back" to their favorite authors. What do you think?
